LA composer, Timmy Milner uses classic compositional and recording techniques creating music to tell the rest of the story, not to add a layer of something bombastic and alien.
Music carries emotion, it’s the part of storytelling that can’t be said in words or images; it pulls us into the dark night of the soul, it returns courage to the hero’s eyes.
Combining new thech with informed orcherstration, Timmy brings a carefully curated timbral palette and big range of style.
Milner loves to join the telling of a good story, working with the team to discover the score that the story wants.
Music Education
Timmy studied contemporary classical composition at the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music …
….where his possibilities of music creation were greatly expanded. His time at Chapman taught him how to communicate with players and write for any musician. Hearing his concept become a reality, performed by live musicians influenced was so magical that it helped shape his philosophy of music. It became the foundation of all of his music; that each final recording should have a human expression, that live musician performances should always be utilized when possible within the deadline and budget.
Studying classical scores like Beethoven’s 7th Symphony to contemporary, avant-garde works of George Crumb, Timmy learned how to use self study of greats from all eras, to enrich his own expression. He has the skillset to effectively orchestrate his own work for full orchestra performance, but also to write out parts for contemporary chamber groups. He specializes in writing extended techniques like prepared piano, string effects, and multiphonics.

Recording and Technology
The best parts of digital music tech with the right analog ingredients.

Analog Recording Techniques
With 7 years of hands on record producing, I bring classic recording techniques to soundtracks. The sound of the composition is extremeley important when creating the soundtrack to a film. M experience in professional recording studios and the studio I have curated at home will make your movie stand out.

Analog and Digital Synthesis
Analog synthesis has been a passion of Timmy’s for years. Synthesizing the right sound for a score is an imperative skill in film music, whether or not your score has a synthy aesthetic. Having the ability to find that extra-instrument sound to fill the bass or soar in the high frequencies is invaluable.
Analog is almost always the get big cinematic synth sounds, my Moog takes those swings. Digital synthesizers usually do everything the Moog can’t. I’ve taken the time to both acquire and know digital synths. Everyone has their specific sounds they gravitate to, I have a careful collection of “in the box” sounds that are very human and natural.
