LA composer, Timmy Milner combines classical composition with the best of music technology to tell the rest of the story.

Music carries emotion, it’s the part of storytelling that can’t be shown visually; it pulls us into the dark night of the soul, it returns courage to the hero’s eyes.

Combining new tech with informed orchestration, Timmy brings a carefully curated timbral palette and a wide range of style.

Timmy loves to join the telling of a good story, working with the team to discover the score that the movie wants.

Music Education

Timmy studied contemporary classical composition at the Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music

My time at Chapman University taught me how to communicate with players and how to write readable, professional sheet music for any musician. Hearing my written music sing out of a real violin or smash under the mallet of a real percussionist was just magic to me. Live performances of these plans I carefully conceptualized gave me such a rush, it shaped my philosophy of music. It became the foundation of all of the music I was going to make.

Of course there are logistical reasons why films scores can’t always be live performances, but human performance needs to be in film music. So my music will always have human imperfections and life, and when there is a budget for 100% live musicians, THAT. IS. HAPPENING!

I chose to study at Chapman specifically to meet film makers and create my first original film scores. I collaborated with a number of film makers at the Dodge film school, making original scores for their short films. Besides creating great friendships, it gave me experience working on soundtracks at a very young age, experience I still rely on today.

Recording and Technology

The best parts of digital music tech with the right analog ingredients.

Analog Recording Techniques

With 7 years of hands on record producing, I bring classic recording techniques to soundtracks. The sound of film music is extremely important. My experience in professional recording studios and the studio I have carefully built at home will make your movie stand out.

Analog and Digital Synthesis

Analog synthesis has been a passion of mine for years. Synthesizing the right sound for a score is an imperative skill in film music, whether or not your score has a synthy aesthetic. Having the ability to find that extra-instrument sound to fill the bass or soar in the high frequencies is always useful.
